Spanish Guitar Lessons

Up until recently there was a shortage of Spanish guitar lessons available on the web. It still is a neglected area of guitar tuition online however the situation has at least been improved in the last year with some great new sites offering lessons in Spanish guitar. You may find that if you are coming to learn Spanish or Flamenco style guitar as a beginner then many of the methods available are not so suited to your level. A common complaint is that many of the methods require a deep study of the flamenco form. A lot of the techniques involved need months or even years to learn. This is obviously not what the average guitar player is looking to get into. Rather they want a method which is going to provide them with beautiful and authentic Spanish guitar but on a technical level they can realistically aim for.

If you are lucky enough to have a local tutor you can go to for weekly Spanish guitar lessons then this is by far the best option and will certainly decrease the time it takes for you to learn. For many however this simply won’t be an option as learning Spanish guitar is somewhat specialised in many countries especially where it is not part of the popular culture of guitar playing. In these cases teaching yourself from the internet, books and DVD’s become your only options. It’s still possible to achieve your goal however you’ll need to be self motivated and prepared to stick at it over the long term.

When looking to join a website offering Spanish guitar lessons make sure you can try out some sample lessons in advance. This is important since you need to check that their teaching style is going to suit the way you learn and that the tutor is effective in his or her delivery. Flamenco guitar lessons are not the easiest in the world to take however some sites do make it considerably easier than others - they are aimed specifically at beginners and to guitar players who just want to be able to play some great sounding Spanish guitar. Branching out into other styles of guitar playing is always a good thing. It helps your musical growth to flourish and can positively influence the other styles of guitar you normally play or are used to.

Due to the nature of flamenco it is important to have Tab’s for all the exercises and music taught, you’ll need to do practice on a daily basis and it’s not so great to always have to be tied to the computer in order to do it. Printing off the TAB materials will give you the freedom you need to practice effectively even when you don’t have internet access. The lessons will show you the correct techniques and phrasing however the real learning comes when you try to get the music to flow completely on your own. Remember that even though you may have the best Spanish guitar lessons available it will still be your sole responsibility to put in all together and to practice in a patient and diligent way.

Regarding Spanish guitars you will find that there are distinctive differences between Classical and Flamenco guitars. They are related in that they both have nylon strings however there are many differences in their construction, the woods used and how they are set up. You’ll probably find that there’s a much wider range of Classical guitars to choose from in your local music store and that they tend to be cheaper models available too when compared to flamenco guitars. Go for a reasonably priced guitar at the start of your Spanish guitar lessons and as your playing improves you can always upgrage to a more refined flamenco guitar later on when your playing deserves it.
