Fingerstyle Guitar Lessons
For many people learning to play guitar eventually a time will be reached when it simply becomes too boring to continue strumming open chords for beginners with no further progression in mind. It’s easy to get stuck in this rut and actually, 1000’s of people do! When it comes down to it, you have to have a little bit of ambition of guitar - you have to feel the need to express yourself in a better way on the instrument and not be afraid to take the next step out of beginner level guitar and more into ‘really’ being able to play. One thing is for sure, if you’re still a little shaky on your chords then fingerstyle guitar playing is really going to expose that fact to the world. Be prepared for that! Finger picking involves picking individual strings and so any parts (or notes on particular strings) which are not sounding clearly within your chords will quickly be exposed. When you are strumming it’s often possible for this to be masked by the other strings which are sounding perfectly. At first this could be something which has the ability to frustrate you however it could also be the best thing that could happen to your playing since it will force you to really concentrate on improving the quality of your chords and that will automatically improve everything you do on guitar. Fingerstyle guitar lessons are most prevalent in Books with Cds and DVD courses. There’s not a whole lot to work with online yet as most guitar sites concentrate on learning songs and electric guitar playing. That’s where the mass market is aimed at. The reality is that unless you are lucky enough to have a great local tutor to go to for weekly one on one lessons you’ll more than likely be faced with the prospect of having to teach yourself from Books or DVDs. You’ll find some free lessons on YouTube as well however without full courses which are properly structured you’ll more than likely end up frustrated by learning a little here and a little there but nothing really full or concrete. The thing to do with fingerstyle guitar lessons is to learn how to practice really super slow. This is important because all our fingerstyle picking patterns must become so automatic and second nature that you don’t ever have to think about them. You can simple concentrate on chords or even just musical expression and the rest will happen completely on it’s own. Your playing will look and sound effortless and you’ll have a seamless transition from chord to chord. That’s really the goal.
